"Mailbox Poem"
I went to mail a letter and slid right in the box All that you could see of me were my tennis shoes and socks. I self addressed my elbow and air-mail stamped my knee. Soon I would be ready for the next delivery. I folded like an envelope and in a day or so I'd go with all the letters to Japan or Mexico.
The Mailbox Poem
I wanted to visit Grandma
I missed her smiling face.
But I didn't have the plane fare
To travel to her place.
So I hopped into a mailbox
With a stamp and her address
That's how I got to grandmas
By next day express !!
Empty Mailbox
We both lived on Kam Highway, the fastest lane in Laie
We prayed for a car so we could ride that
Highway out of here
But we were short on resources
So we ate extra cheesy goldfish and watched
Our favorite 80s movies and gazed out her beachside window
To see old ladies in hot floral pink bikinis
Greasing up their tan spotted wrinkles,
Or I’d look through her magazines at hot guys
(I’m shallow like that sometimes.)
We blasted the Beatles and ruminated on our latest infatuations
We never needed to entertain each other
We had the best conversations without saying anything
A rusty mailbox, old, corroded,
And disintegrating in between our houses
Was our meeting point.
The last day she was here, she came to say goodbye
I walked her to the mailbox.
The year she left me for Oregon
It rained more than ever before.
